June 1, 2018

It’s hard to believe that we are almost at the midway point of 2018—and summer is practically upon us. We’ve had a banner year so far for the Child Creativity Lab; here are a few of our proudest highlights:

• In January, we held our first Distinguished Corporate Creativity and Innovation Leadership Award Gala—and raised approximately $100,000
• In the first half of this year, on average, we facilitated 9 hands-on educational workshops per week through programs at the Child Creativity Lab Depot for Creative Reuse Center and via our Makerspace-on-Wheels Outreach Program
• In our Grant-Funded Programs ALONE that provide free programming to at-risk communities, we served 1,200 kids; our goal for 2018 is to reach 2,400 children, so we have achieved the midway milestone and are on pace to meet our goals
• Due to high demand, we increased our Summer Camp schedule this year from two camps to three—and we are offering a full-day camp. Enrollments are nearly at capacity.

As we all switch to school-free days, summer getaways and enjoying the SoCal sun, the Child Creativity Lab is also in the midst of change. With a healthy mix of sadness and optimism, we are saying goodbye to our founder and Executive Director, Peter Chang, as he is moving on to pursue the next phase of his professional and personal life.

Peter’s vision to inspire and empower the next generation of problem solvers has been emphatically embraced over the past five years throughout Orange County—and we know many will miss his impact within the organization. With his departure however, we are embracing the opportunity to bring in a fresh perspective and renewed vigor, in order to continue advancing our mission. We look forward to introducing our new leader later this summer, so stay tuned for an announcement and invitation to a welcome reception.

In the meantime, rest assured that leadership at all levels of the organization continues to be strong and motivated. Our regular programming will continue as planned, and we hope you will continue to support all that the Child Creativity Lab champions. Finally, we are always looking to add creative and enthusiastic individuals to the team—if you’d like to get involved, please contact me at

Thank you for your continued support during this time of transition. We are excited for all the opportunities to come, and we look forward to making Orange County an even more creative space to learn, play and grow.

Best regards,

Carol R. Stone
Board of Directors Chair
